I'd say jump straight into Witcher 2 and enjoy. This project is a continuation of Shadow Keeper, originally released by Aaron O'Neil in 2000 for Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal. The work is done on the server end of things, which is why an internet connection is required.
I'm surprised how little gets pulled into TW2 actually but this is perfect for me. Now the other day I tried playing the witcher 1, I fully modded it graphic wise and everything and it looked good.
